C is for Chonka
An A to Z Book of Feelings
A Note to Caregivers:
Chonka the Wombat is a character about building calm through structure.
Wombats are careful builders. They dig tunnels, shape their space, and make strong homes. They are also known for one unusual thing: wombats make square droppings. Their bodies turn something messy into something solid and predictable.
Chonka reflects this kind of thinking. Some children feel safer when things are stacked, lined up, or done the same way again and again. Building helps them turn big, confusing feelings into something they can see, touch, and understand.
Chonka supports neurodivergent children who use structure to regulate their emotions. Wanting order or sameness is not stubbornness or avoidance. It is a way of finding balance and feeling steady in the body.
Together with Ao and Bippa, Chonka expands the emotional language of Ao’s Ark. Ao helps children stay. Bippa helps them wait. Chonka helps them build. All three remind caregivers that there is more than one healthy way to find calm—and sometimes it starts by making things a little more square.
